Langtang Classic Trek (Langtang –Gosainkund/Frozen Lake)
The Langtang Himalayas are within easy reach of Kathmandu. But they rival any alpine area on the planet for staggering natural beauty. The Langtang region remains one of Nepal's hidden treasures with far less tourist traffic than the Everest or Annapurna regions so that you will feel more respect while traveling this region.
Langtang is a narrow valley bordering Tibet. A trek to the narrow Langtang valley, bordering Tibet, is a great opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks, and visit glaciers at comfortably low elevations. The inhabitants of the area are of Tibetan origin, the majority being the Tamang tribe. Expect Tibetan cultural influence throughout the valley.
Best season to visit: In the spring (February / March to May/ June) when the rhododendrons, the national flower of Nepal, are in bloom. Also in the fall (September to November / December) or post-monsoon when the weather is temperate and the skies are clear.
Trek Grade: Moderate. This is not a difficult trek although it has some steep climbs. No mountaineering skills required. This itinerary offers a gradual gain of the altitude to greatly reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
Maximum altitude: 4610m at Lauribina La
Length of trek: It is advisable to spend two weeks around this region (Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda) to fully experience the full scenic and cultural splendor.
Accommodations: This is traditionally a teahouse trek with well-maintained facilities along the route. It can also be organized as a camping trek as the valley floor can provide comfortable camping spots in good weather. Camping trek rates and fees are considerably higher as more resources are required.
Culture: Tamang
Himalayan sights: Langtang Lirung (7245m), Manaslu (8157m), Ganesh Himal& as far as Annapurna massif
Key Attractions:Summits Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Madiya (6257m) and Phurbi Chhyachu (6637m), the trail follows a ridge to Bhairav Kund, a holy lake at 3500 meters. We then make a circuit around the head of the Balephi Khola Valley to Panch Pokhari ("five lakes") at 3600 meters, a seldom-visited pilgrimage site. Finally, the trek leads to Helambu region to end at Melamchi Bazaar.
Additional Information: Trekkers must beware of snowfall and avalanches that can block the narrow entrance. Our experienced porters/guides will help you to avoid potentially unsafe situations.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu to Dhunche: Kathmandu to Dhunche (1950m): Drive
Drive to Dhunche by bus/jeep about eight hours perched amid stepped rice and wheat fields along the Trisuli river valley. Evening, we explore around the Dhunche. Dhunche is the districts headquarter of Rasuwa. It is small village but picturesque.
Day 02: Dhunche to Syabrubesi (1470m): Trek.
There is road facility to Syabrubesi and some trekkers used to drive directly from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi as well but it is worth to trek by foot because the road is rough, winding down the river valley. We’ll see some houses are impossibly in steep hillsides surrounded by the horizontal lines of the steppes. The views, however, are incredible.
Day 03: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2470m): Trek.
We are walking down a narrow path toward the river and enter into the narrow Langtang valley along the Trishuli and Langtang River. We continue up and down but the trail is higher and higher. We'll reach Lama Hotel after walking for six hours, walked about 10km and gained 810 meters.
Day 04: Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3320m): Trek.
The trail winds upward through idyllic forests walk in silence through the picturesque landscape and around mossy rocks. We can see the clear mountains view from Ghodatabela some hours far from Lama hotel. The trail continues past jokpe (part cow, part yak, and very furry) and yaks, and marvel at the huge rhododendron trees. Langtang village is a cluster of teahouses and local dwellings set in a rocky treeless landscape. Buddhist Chorten wind along the trail, a long line of rocks stacked into a low wall and carved with inscriptions and designs. It is a beautiful and peaceful place. We’ll travel about 10km and gain about 1020m.
Day 05: Langtang to Kyanjing Gompa (3730 m): Trek.
The trail is easy, ascending another 400m into Kyanjin Gompa, it is just four hours walk. The valley opens around us with huge snow-covered peaks reaching impossibly high into the brilliant blue sky. Leaving the entire afternoon free for an excursion.
Day 06: Rest day at Kyanjing Gompa: Excursion to Kyangin RI (4510m)
After careful acclimatization, we’ll reach on the top of Kyanjin RI from where we can see an incredible vista of snowy peaks and glacial valleys. Closer, the immense Langtang Lirung (7225 metres), Tserko RI, Yala Peak and other mountains. They are beautiful, immense, and of a scale greater than any mountain.
Day 07: Kyanjing Gompa to Lama Hotel: Trek.
Day 08: Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru / Syabru Village (2210m): Trek.
The trail descends slowly to Landslide and two hours walk up to Shyabru Village. Shyabru village is big village and most of the buildings are modern types and locals are Sherpa majority.
Day 09: Syabru village to Cholang Pati (3594m): Trek.
The path is steep, much steeper than any we have walked thus far. Before long, we are in the middle of a forest of blooming rhododendron trees. We have finally arrived in Cholang Pati having gained 1384 metres elevation. Cholang Pati is nice place for seeing some of the Langtang Himalayan ranges in the morning with sunrise views.
Day 10: Cholang Pati to Gosainkunda Lake (4380m): Trek.
The trail is slowly up and temperature is about freezing possibly snowing some time. Whie we reach up to Gosainkund, it is the highest place where we have to spend one full night. Gosaikunda is a holy lake for Hindus and Buddhists alike. People make a pilgrimage to this place from across Nepal and India, ultimately bathing in the sacred waters (which guarantee you entrance into Heaven).
Day 11: Gosainkunda Lake to Tharepati (3458m) via crossing Lauribina Pass (4610m): Trek.
The trail is slowly up to Lauribina, the highest point of this trek. The trail winds upward over Gosaikunda lake and soon we find ourselves digging our shoes into thick snow as we ascend higher and higher. The air is clear and, as the sun rises over the mountain peaks, we are overwhelmed with the beauty of our surroundings. From Lauribina Pass, We continue downhill to Ghopte, steeply down about 1150m, hardest trail during the trek. We’ll trek not less than seven hours to reach Tharepati.
Day 12: Tharepati to Kutumsang (2440m): Trek.
After breakfast, we descend down the steps and follow the ridge taking in the view, and steadily descend through the forest occasionally emerging at small clearings with derelict houses of Megengoth. This area is resident to the Satyr Tragopan, rare specie of pheasant that are occasionally seen on the trail.
After the small pass at the Deurali (small pass) we descend gently to begin with arriving at a small lodge, the descent then becomes steeper as the trail courses through the forest on deeply rutted water eroded path. Emerging out of the forest after about two hours later we arrive at a grassy knoll with a stupa, and then reenter the forest and drop down to Kutumsang.
Day 13: Kutumsang( 2440M) to Chisopani: Trek.
After Breakfast, We walk through the village and gently climb past the healthcare center for about an hour up to a tea house then descend past another tea house and further down on a rocky path to the Tamang Village in Gol Bhanjyang. We continue through the village past the stupa and on a much wider path to Thodong Danda. From Thodong Danda, We climb a little to Chipling Danda from where we should be able to see Chisopani, our destination, and then descend steeply down a rocky and rough path to Chipling Village. This is a very authentic Tamang village, with thatch-roofed houses as we pass through before descending further down to Tinkune Bhanjyang. It is a fairly level walk from here to Pati Bhanjyang, then a steady climb up to Chisapani. We will stay overnight in a hotel in Chisopani.
Day 14: Chisopani to Kathmandu via Sundarijal- 1460 m (15km/ one hour): Trek, drive by Taxi / car
After Breakfast, we Leave Chisopani and enter the Shivapuri National Park. We follow the wide trail forking out to the right for a short while before taking a smaller path off the main as we start climbing through the National park.
Shivapuri National Park is resident to a very big population of wild boar, deer, leopard and many species of bird. It is a gentle climb for about two hours and then descends down to Sundarijal as we pass the reservoir. Our transport should be waiting to drive us to our hotel in Kathmanndu.
And finally...
It must be stressed that whilst trekking in the Nepal Himalayas is challenging and rewarding, you must be prepared for the occasional inconvenience or discomfort. The correct mental attitude to trekking is as important as being physically prepared.
