Ganesh Himal Trek
Although not as popular as Annapurna and Everest areas, many trekkers recommend the Ganesh Himal route. It is famous for Tamang Culture, and spectacular mountain views and rhododendron forest. The Ganesh Himal range consists of several peaks over 7000m in elevation with uninhabited foothills running down to the south and west. You will also vist the town of Gorkha, home of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. No specific permit is needed to trek in Ganesh Himal area.
Ganesh Himal located in the central region of Nepal on the northwest of Kathmandu. It is 70 km far from the capital city. This is not new area for trekking but few people visit there because of it's remoteness. Its beautiful mountains can be seen even from the Kathmandu valley. Though it is within easy access from Kathmandu. It is one of the precious areas where the simple life of the Himalayas can be still observed. The Ganesh Himal trek begins at Trisuli, a five hours drive from Kathmandu in the semitropical sun, goes up to high elevation, where a close view of Ganesh II (7163 meter) and Ganesh IV (7052metre) can be enjoyed, and descends to Syabrubenshi after crossing two passes. This trek can be start even from Dhadingbensi. Then start to walk to the Sing La pass through Salangkhu Khola, Gonga and Balche village. This is the course without lodges for trekkers. The highest elevation is more than 4,000 meters, requiring caution for altitude sickness.
The treks to this region are designed to introduce people to a broad spectrum of life in different Nepalese communities and varieties of beautiful scenery. People may visit base camp of the Ganesh Himal where there are twin lakes called Black and White. And twin waterfalls _ Ganga and Jamuna; bring to your heart during the trekking period. Bramhinn, Chhetri, Gurung, Tamang are main inhabitant of this route.
Best season to visit: In the spring (March to May) when the rhododendrons, the national flower of Nepal, are in bloom. Also in the fall (September to November) or post-monsoon when the weather is temperate and the skies are clear.
Trek Grade: Easy to Moderate. This is not a difficult trek although it has some steep climbs. No mountaineering skills required.
Maximum altitude: 4750m at Shingla Top.
Length of trek: It is advisable to spend two and half week along this route to fully experience the full scenic and cultural splendor.
Accommodations: This is traditionally a teahouse trek with well-maintained facilities along the route. It can also be organized as a camping trek as the valley floor can provide comfortable camping spots in good weather. Camping trek rates and fees are considerably higher as more resources are required.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu to Trishuli to Salangkhu khola (548m) (72 km/ 2-3 hours): Drive by bus/car, trek.
We drive to Trisuli in the morning and have lunch near the Trishuli Electricity Dam. After lunch we walk for about 3 hours to Salangkhu Khola and camp.
Day 02: Salangkhu khola to Balche village (2020m): Trek.
An easy walk and then a short climb takes us to Kalaeale village for lunch. After lunch we proceed to the big Tamang village of Balche for our overnight camp.
Day 03: Balche village to Gonga (2800m): Trek.
We take an easy walk from Balche village through a forest and camp with the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Gosainkund in good view.
Day 04: Gonga to Singla top (4750m) to Phedi (3545m):Trek.
We take an easy walk from Balche village through a forest and camp with the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Gosainkund in good view.
Day 05: Rest day at Singla: Acclimatization.
Day 06: Singla to Pangsang (4000m): Trek.
We walk up the Singla hill following small trails to Pangsung for our overnight camp. The view from here is spectacular.
Day 07: Pangsang to Shomdang: Trek.
We walk down through pine and rhododendron forest to the tamang village of serthung and set up camp with good views of mountains all around.
Day 08: Shomdang to Jogeshworkund Lake: Trek.
Day 09: Rest day at Jogeshworkund Lake: Acclimatization.
Day 10: Jogeshworkund Lake to Linju khola: Trek.
Day 11: Linju khola to Sertung village (2050m): Trek.
Day 12: Sertung village to Lapa: Trek.
A short trail and then a gradual descent through Barang village and then crossing the Akhu Khola takes us to Laba, a big Tamang village.
Day 13: Lapa to Mongeythanti: Trek.
We climb gently over a hill and then descend through forest to camp at Mongeythanti.
Day 14: Mongeythanti to Dunchet village: Trek.
A gradual walk down through forest with lunch by a stream brings us tour camp at Dumchet village.
Day 15: Dunchet village to Budigandaki: Trek.
We take a gradual walk today to Baseri and camp near the Budigandaki River.
Day 16: Budigandaki to Arughat Bazaar:
We walk along the bank of Budhigandaki River and stop at Arughat Bazaar for the night. There are teashops and a police station here.
Day 17: Arughat Bazaar to Bungkot Ghat (relates with the first Prime Minister of Nepal): Trek.
Day 18: Bungkot Ghat to Jyamrung /Dhading Besi / Bus or car to Kathmandu or Bungkot to gorkha (the first kingdom of gorkha)
Day 19: Gorkha to Kathmandu (141 km/ 5-6 hours): Drive by bus/car to Kathmandu.

It must be stressed that whilst trekking in the Nepal Himalayas is challenging and rewarding, you must be prepared for the occasional inconvenience or discomfort. The correct mental attitude to trekking is as important as being physically prepared.
